Our President, Judge Samuel S. Chung

Judge Samuel Sangki Chung was appointed to the King County Superior Court bench in May 2014, by Governor Jay Inslee. Since then, he has been re-elected in 2015, 2016, and 2020.
Judge Chung is currently assigned to the juvenile and dependency rotation at the Clark Children and Family Justice Center, Seattle. He has previously served at the King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle in civil trial rotation, criminal trial assignment rotation, unified family court rotation, and he has also served at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. He has served as a co-chair of the King County Superior Court’s Jury Committee, on the Court’s Education and Training Committee, and the Court’s Community, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.
Prior to his appointment to King County Superior Court, Judge Chung worked in private practice, with focus on contract, real estate, and commercial litigation.
Judge Chung was born in Seoul, Korea, and moved to New Jersey, U.S.A., with his family when he was 12 years old. He attended Columbia University in New York City, earning his BA in history. He received his J.D. degree from George Washington University, in Washington DC.
Judge Chung now serves as the president for the Superior Court Judges’ Association in Washington state.
