Judge Rachelle Anderson is a life-long Eastern Washington resident. She has served on the Spokane County Superior Court bench since her January 2019 appointment by Governor Inslee. Prior to her time as a Superior Court Judge, Anderson was a Superior Court Commissioner in Spokane for eight years, where she presided over an array of cases ranging from Family Law to Involuntary Treatment, Guardianship and Juvenile matters. As a 1997 Graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law, Judge Anderson spent her early years in practice at Smith & Hemingway, P.S., later becoming Smith, Hemingway and Anderson. Her focus was Family Law and Juvenile Dependency parent’s representation. Her passion for service to the legal community came early, with her work as a Trustee with the Washington Young Lawyers Division, and service as a member and later Chair to the Washington State Bar Association’s Character and Fitness Committee. Judge Anderson was the first Superior Court Commissioner to serve as a solo-Chair to a Superior Court Judges' Association (SCJA) Committee with her appointment as the Chair to the Probate and Guardianship Committee in 2017. Previous work with the SCJA has also included service on the SCJA Legislative Committee, and her involvement in legislative issues continues.

Judge Anderson’s efforts in the field of Guardianship work have also included serving nine years on the Certified Professional Guardianship Board, most recently acting as Chair. Judge Anderson was also honored to teach on the topic of Guardianships at the 2020 Washington State Judicial College.

Judge Anderson is pleased to serve out the remainder of this term as President of the Superior Court Judges' Association, and looks forward to continued collaborative efforts with all Board Members, stakeholders and Superior Court judicial officers across the state, endeavoring to support the interest and passions of the Association.
